Parting with the Piercing

Pregnancy Piercing

My girlfriend and I got our belly buttons pierced during spring break of my senior year of college, and I've been determined to hold on to this final piece of my youth as long as possible. I may be 30, drive a station wagon and go to bed at 10 p.m., but who says a mom-to-be can't still wear a little navel jewelry?!

But, despite my best attempts to save the ring -- and my youth -- my belly finally got too big. So, I drove my sore, red belly button to the mall and bought a maternity piercing at a kiosk from a pimply-faced teenager who I'm pretty sure was laughing at me as I walked away with my purchase. (Maternity piercings are extra long barbells that are flexible to allow for stretching.) I got home, popped in the ring and looked at myself in the mirror. It was 10 times the length of my belly button and looked like I had tried to glue a handle to my basketball belly. It also poked through all my shirts and looked ridiculous.
So, I've decided it's time to let it go ... at least for now.

  1. I am laughing out loud!!! I wonder who you were with when you did such a thing?!? =) We sure had some good times. The funny thing is, I felt the same way about it and hung on for as long as I could. Once it was all over with, and I had two babies underfoot, I decided to redo it myself and get back into the swing of being young. But I actually didn't like it anymore and decided to also...let it go. LOL. Love ya! Oh, and you look incredible!!!
